Power Surge is the shock-based build keyword in Once Human, and it can be built around two very different weapons: the MPS7 - Outer Space submachine gun and the ACS12 - Corrosion shotgun. Both are ranked highly by community sources in 2026, but they ask different things of you. This guide explains how the keyword works, compares the two weapons side by side, and covers the mods, armor and calibration logic that community guides recommend.
How Does the Power Surge Keyword Work?
Power Surge is a status effect applied by weapons that carry the keyword. According to community databases, it deals shock damage scaled on your Psi Intensity, and it ignores crits and weak spots by default. That is why the build revolves around a few specific mods and weapon effects that unlock Power Surge crits and boost its damage.
The effect also carries an accuracy penalty on the target, according to the database entries we read for both weapons. That is a useful side effect against enemies that shoot back.
Exact trigger chances differ between sources, so treat any percentage below as a database figure, not a guarantee. Your weapon's in-game tooltip is the reference.
ACS12 Corrosion vs MPS7 Outer Space: Which Should You Pick?
| ACS12 - Corrosion | MPS7 - Outer Space | |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon type | Shotgun | Submachine gun |
| Power Surge trigger | 80% on hit per one database; 70% per a Game8 guide | 30% on hit, raised after a reload, per a database |
| Keyword bonus | Unlocks Power Surge crits (+25% crit rate), plus a stacking crit damage bonus | Lightning strike after hitting a Power Surge target 12 times (500% Shock damage, 40% against Metas) |
| Range and mobility | Close range burst | Longer range, built for moving |
| Community ranking (Oct. 2026) | S rank; often called one of the strongest PvP weapons | SS rank; called the premier Power Surge SMG |
| Changed in 2026 patches | None reported by the tier list we read | None reported by the tier list we read |
The rankings come from one community tier list updated for patch 3.0.7 (September 28, 2026), not from Starry Studio. That page also notes that Power Surge players in PvP often swap the anchor weapon to the ACS12 - Corrosion.
Short version: pick the MPS7 if you want a mobile, forgiving build that keeps the status loop running at range. Pick the ACS12 - Corrosion if you are comfortable fighting up close and want crit-stacked burst.

ACS12 Corrosion Build: Mods and Gear
According to community guides, the shotgun version of the build uses a full kit:
- Primary: ACS12 - Corrosion with the Shock Rampage mod, which a Game8 guide says raises Power Surge trigger chance per stack.
- Secondary: Recurve Crossbow with Vulnerability Amplifier, which marks targets so they take more damage.
- Melee: Stun Baton with Shock Diffusion, which spreads the Power Surge status to nearby enemies.
- Armor: the Lonewolf set pieces for magazine and crit bonuses, with the Gas Mask Hood as helmet.
- Deviant: Lonewolf's Whisper, which that guide says draws enemy fire and spawns clones on kills.
Don't confuse this weapon with the ACS12 - Pyroclasm, which belongs to the Burn build. The two share a base shotgun but not their keyword, so mods and calibration built for one are wasted on the other.
MPS7 Outer Space Build: Mods and Gear
For the SMG, a German community guide (published in 2024, so treat it as older) lists mods such as Deviation Expert, Fateful Strike, Thunderclap, First Electrocution, Status Amplification and Deadshot, with Gas Mask Hood or Mayfly Goggles as headgear and the Shelterer, Lonewolf or Falcon armor sets. Its core advice has aged well: land crits consistently and position so Power Surge can keep ticking.
Database entries show the MPS7 with a high fire rate and a large magazine, which is why it suits a sustained-uptime build. We could not find a 2026 guide that re-tested this exact mod list, so check the current mod names in game before planning around it.
Calibration and Patches: What Changed in 2026?
Since January 13, 2026, calibration is applied when you craft a weapon and cannot be swapped afterwards. For a Power Surge weapon, choose the calibration that supports Power Surge or crit stats first, then craft. Our guide to the best Once Human builds covers that crafting order in more detail.
The community tier list we read, updated for the 3.0.x series up to patch 3.0.7 (September 28, 2026), reports no change to either weapon. The v3.0.6 patch of September 16 did rework a Shrapnel weapon, which we cover in our Once Human Shrapnel build guide. With the Isles of Abyss scenario launching on October 21, 2026, keyword tuning could shift, and we will revisit this guide afterwards.
Power Surge Build FAQ
Is the MPS7 Outer Space or the ACS12 Corrosion better?
Neither is strictly better. Community lists rank the MPS7 slightly higher overall, while the ACS12 - Corrosion is favored by many PvP players. Pick based on whether you fight at range or up close.
Does Power Surge ignore crits?
By default, according to the database entry for the ACS12 - Corrosion. Its keyword is what unlocks Power Surge crits, which is why the build leans on it.
Is the ACS12 Corrosion the same as the Pyroclasm?
No. Corrosion is a Power Surge weapon, Pyroclasm a Burn weapon.
The Bottom Line
Power Surge rewards commitment: one keyword, one weapon, mods and calibration chosen before you craft. Start with the MPS7 for mobility, move to the ACS12 - Corrosion for close-range burst, and verify tooltips before investing. For our overall verdict on the game, see our Once Human review.
